…all my troubles seemed so far away…
Yesterday….
John Maine almost pitched a no-hitter.
Lastings Milledge had 2 homeruns.
The Mets shut out a team.
The Phillies lost.
The Padres lost.
…”now it looks as if they’re here to stay…”
yes, just like the Beatles song. My heart is breaking. Don’t say I’m being dramatic. I know I probably am taking it more personal than the players are, who make millions, and can just look away. Don’t say its just a game. I LOVE this team. I will always love this team. Last year, Game7 of the NLCS broke me, this might be even worse.
It’s ok though. Met fans are tough. I lived through the 90’s. I lived through that crappy subway series, and the era of Braves dominance. I lived through bad trade after bad trade, I lived with other Mets fans in the shadow of the winningest team ever just across a borough. Over the years, there is one slogan that has stuck with us.
Wait til next year.
So now what? My friend James asked me this just a few moments ago. “Football” I said. The Jets are losing right now…..bah. Who was I kidding anyway? I could never love the boys in green as much as my Mets. It’s over. It really is. I want to say I still believe. I want to say LETS GO METS. But they have shut me up. This collapse has shut me up. I’m one of the most vocal fans I know too.
I had started a Mets blog at the beginning of this 2007 season. There was so much promise then. It got discontinued because of stuff life throws at me. Distractions such as trying to graduate from college, finding a job, etc. Well I can’t go back to that blog, so that’s why I’m starting this one. To explore Life after Baseball. Life after the Mets.
