sometimes an impromtu mets game is best
April 22, 2008so here I am, 6 days after-the-fact, writing. so many other things going on. I can offer my opinion on Senator Clinton’s desperate win in PA just now, or elaborate on my experiences with the Blessed Pope and the decrepit Yankee Stadium, or comment on my upcoming exciting weekend in Albany. Instead I will focus on an unexpected “i’m not even supposed to be here today!” late afternoon I had last week. That and I feel I am already cheating my commitment to blogging about every Mets game in this final Shea season.
so I’m getting ready to leave work, when I get a call from Jackie Egan, who happens to have a messload of extra Mets tickets. At first I’m hesitant, since I had a LOT to do that day, wanted to catch the Rangers-Devils game, and besides, I was headed to the game the next day anyway. So I say no, and continue on…then it hits me. THE LAST SEASON. Why the hell am I saying no to anyone?
So I call Jackie back, who tells me to find someone else since she has an extra ticket. I call my usual rolodex of Mets fans, or should I say, so-called Mets fans, since everyone appeared to be busy. So I managed to drag my co-worker with me, who unfortunately is a Yankees fan. (Hey he had a good time).
So what do I remember aside from my awesome foot-long chilli cheese dog?? BELTRAN’S FIRST HOME RUN! LASTINGS MILLEDGE GETTING HIT BY A PITCH AND SHEA CHEERING! REYES AND CHURCH GOING DEEP AS WELL! MAINE AND SMITH PITCHING AMAZIN’! Man, I love this team.
It was the first time this season, I began to think, “So you’re saying we have a chance…?” (Think Dumb and Dumber on that one.)
My record then? 2-1 (.667)
I did go to the game the next day, which turned out to be even more AMAZIN’, but more on that another time.
